In the interests of lowering base weight as much as possible, I recently ordered a new Hexamid Solo from Joe at ZPacks. I formerly owned a Hexamid in blue a couple of years ago and, to be honest, really regretted selling it. It was an awesome tent. It had a few idiosyncrasies sure but also many advantages – even against the Solplex.
Well, the tent arrived today and I just wanted to point out one thing. Many manufacturers weights are either or not accurate or are not all up weights (i.e. they do not include things such as guy line, stuff sack weight etc). Whilst I don’t believe this is dishonest in any way, I do think it can be a source of confusion for some end users and can make comparability of gear difficult. ZPacks quote 437 grams for the Hexamid Solo including everything but stakes and stuff sack. The Hexamid Solo on my scales comes in at 436 grams. You have to appreciate a company which produces quality gear but is so accurate with their listed weights.
I’ll post a review in due course with detailed photos and thoughts.
